A man was rushed to a London hospital with serious injuries after falling from a bridge on the M25 on Thursday morning.

A huge emergency response including an air ambulance responded to near junction 25 in Essex at about 3.30am, after reports a person had fallen, while a stretch of the motorway was shut for four hours.

The man, aged around 50, was found on the carriageway having suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, said East of England Ambulance Service Trust.

The Met Police was called to the scene “to reports of an injured person in the anticlockwise carriageway”.

“The man had injuries consistent with a fall from height and has been taken to hospital,” said a force spokesperson. “We await an update on his condition.”

An East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust spokesperson said: “The patient, a male aged around 50, sustained serious injuries and was transported by road to the Royal London Hospital for treatment, with medics from the air ambulance also travelling to provide advanced critical care.”

The M25 was closed anti-clockwise between Junction 27 for the M11, and Junction 24 for Potters Bar in Essex, while the incident was dealt with.

The motorway had reopened by roughly 7.30am.

As of around 8.45am the M25 slip roads at junction 25 and the A10 roundabout near Waltham Cross and Enfield remained closed while further police carried out investigations.

Around 7.30am, National Highways warned drivers of “long delays of at least 60 minutes” remained between junction 28 near Brentwood in Essex and junction 27 near Epping.
