The suspect then got back in the vehicle - which he was a passenger in - and fled the scene leaving the victim seriously injured in the street.

He was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he received treatment from medics for a serious head injury.

It's understood he was later released from hospital.

Detectives have now launched an investigation into the incident, which is being treated as serious assault.

They have issued an appeal to the public in a bid to trace the suspect, who is described to be in his early 20s, of slim build, tall and wearing dark clothing.

He is believed to have been a passenger within a red Vauxhall Astra.

Officers investigating are currently carrying out enquiries and are urging anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the attack to come forward.

Detective Constable Jade Clark from CID in Paisley said: "We are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the man responsible for this unprovoked assault.

“The victim suffered serious injuries as a result.

“The suspect then fled the scene in the Red Vauxhall Astra.

“We are appealing for witnesses in the area around the time of the attack who observed anybody acting suspiciously and would ask any motorists in the area to check dash-cam footage to see if they captured anything which may be useful to our investigation.
