Man rushed to hospital following assault during day of chaos in Finglas

A man was rushed to hospital after he was assaulted at the end of a day of chaos in Finglas.

Gardai swarmed the scene of the incident in the Cappagh Road area just before 6pm this evening.

One local source told Dublin Live that the 22-year-old victim was "punctured like a pin cushion", but his injuries are described by gardai as non-life threatening.

It comes after a number of flashpoints between two rival gangs in the area throughout the day.

Video footage seen by Dublin Live shows a large gang of young men jumping into a vehicle in the area after chasing another man, just before the attack.

A gang can be seen attempting to assault one man with a flurry of weapon shots and fists.

Pictures also showed a strong garda presence in another part of the area.

No arrests have been made yet in relation to the assault.

A spokesman for the gardai said: "Gardai are investigating all the circumstances of an incident where a man was assaulted on the evening of Wednesday, 9th February, 2022, in the Finglas area of Dublin.

"The injured man, aged in his 20s, has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing."

The assault comes as gardai are also investigating after an explosive device was thrown at a house nearby.

A number of garda vehicles, including armed personnel, locked down the Deanstown area of Finglas on Monday evening.

Footage seen by Dublin Live shows up to a dozen garda vehicles lining a road in the estate, while officers combed a garden of a home.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai are appealing to anyone with any information to contact them.

"They are particularly keen for anyone who may have witnessed or have camera footage of this incident to make contact with Gardai.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Finglas Gardai on 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
