Man rushed to hospital after shooting on estate as police also find 'several tens of thousands of pounds'

Armed police stormed a quiet estate on Thursday night (December 29) following reports of a shooting. Officers raced to Overdale, in Swinton, at around 6pm to a "report of a firearms discharge".

A man was rushed to hospital from the scene, with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. A large cordon was immediately erected by officers, with detectives and forensics seen carrying out investigations for a number of hours.

Bags containing what is estimated to be "several tens of thousands of pounds of cash" were also recovered, with two males later arrested on suspicion of money laundering, firearms offences and drug offences.

Residents reported a police helicopter hovering overhead shortly after the incident, with access to parts of the estate completely blocked off as enquiries were carried out.

Numerous police vehicles were seen on Overdale, with officers stationed outside a property. Detectives were seen making door to door enquiries as forensics officers pictured evidence.

Greater Manchester Police have since confirmed there will be an increase in officer patrols in the neighbouring area following the incident in a bid to reassure the community, and are urging people with information to come forward as they work at a 'fast pace' to investigate.

Detective Inspector Charlotte Poole said: "I would like to reassure the local community that we have increased the number of patrol officers deployed to the area and are working at pace to understand the full circumstances surrounding this incident. If you have any concerns about this incident, please speak to one of our officers in the area who are on hand to support you.
