A man has been fatally mauled by up to three dogs at a home south of Brisbane.

Police say officers were called to the Ison Rd residence at Greenbank shortly before 11am on Saturday, where they located the victim of the attack lying unconscious in the fenced front yard with serious injuries.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the 42-year-old died at the scene.

Police say they located three dogs inside the yard and they have been handed over to council animal control officers.

The owners of the property were not home at the time, while reports suggest the man may have been an energy company contractor.

Police said Work Safe Australia had been notified as he was conducting work in the area at the time of the attack.

A crime scene was declared and the street closed as detectives and scientific officers investigated.
