A man has died after being rescued from the River Irvine last night.
Emergency services raced to the major river near Irvine's Marress Road at around 8.40pm yesterday evening.
Mercy crews managed to rescue the 49-year-old but officials have confirmed today that the man was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for a man in the River Irvine near to Marress Road in Irvine shortly after 8.40pm on Wednesday, June 14.
“The 49-year-old was rescued from the water and taken to Crosshouse Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
