Man praises kind Dublin Airport security worker who found missing ring minutes before flight

A doctor has thanked the kind security staff at Dublin Airport for helping him find a missing ring just minutes before his flight.

Lorcan O Maoileannaigh explained that his ring has huge sentimental value as it was a gift from his partner Sarah.

The pair were just about to board their flight when they realised that Lorcan's ring was missing, having taken it off to go through security.

Lorcan told Dublin Live that it was his first time flying since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and he was extra cautious going through the scanner.

He said: "It’s a ring my partner Sarah of 6 years got me - it’s the first time I’ve flown in three years so when going through security, I just took everything I could think of off because the security staff were under so much pressure .

"We had initially gotten to our gate with an hour to spare (got to the airport at 5am and we’re out the other end at 7:30am) but just as we were about to board the flight I noticed my ring was missing.

"I told Sarah that if they wouldn’t wait to call me."

Thankfully, he was immediately helped by three kind security members and a group of lads who saw how stressed he was.

Without them, he doubts he would have made his flight.

Lorcan said: "I ran back absolutely panicked and when someone overheard I was looking for a ring when talking to security - a group of maybe six lads started helping me go through empty trays at the end of the security line.

"Three members of staff at the front of the queue were going through the new trays as they handed them out.

"After 10mins one of the security staff found it at the front and handed it to me. I gave her a massive hug and thanked the lads.

"I ran back to the gate and I was the last one on for the time of take-off by the skin of my teeth."
