Man pleads guilty to 65 child sexual abuse charges

A man facing more than 60 charges of child sexual abuse insists the situation was blown out of proportion because the victim "wanted" it.

"I know things like rape are wrong. But there was no rape," the man, who cannot be named, told Gosford District Court on Wednesday.

"He wanted this. Otherwise, it would have never happened."

The man is accused of 65 child sexual abuse offences. His wife was similarly charged.

The charges included aggravated sexual intercourse, intentionally sexually touching a child, aggravated sexual assault of a cognitive impaired victim, indecent assault and filming the boy for child abuse material between May 2016 and February 2021 when the boy was aged between 12 and 16.

The man denied engaging in sexual intercourse with the victim, claiming the only time he touched the boy was during one act of oral sex.

His main role was to allegedly film his wife having sex with the child.

"He was over the age of consent. He put his penis in my head," the man told the court.

The man initially pleaded guilty to all charges in a lower court but told Judge David Wilson he was "bullied" into doing so by his solicitor at the time.

He intended to change his plea on Wednesday and go to trial.

Defence barrister Marcus Juhasz urged Judge Wilson to "talk some sense into him".

"I've tried for the last two hours today to get what, in my view, is the right result," Mr Juhasz told the court.

"The consequences are dire for him."

The man maintained his guilty pleas after the judge told him he would receive a 25 per cent discount on his sentence.

The couple had been arrested in February 2021 after police raided their Central Coast home searching for drugs and weapons, and found a mobile phone with images of the young boy being sexually abused.

The victim later told police he had been forced to perform sexual acts after being invited to their home on false pretences.

"I used to get free pot, free ice, free MDMA off him (the husband) to do that, to f***, to root his wife," the victim told police.

The couple called him ''retard'', allegedly referring to his cognitive impairment.

The man denied these allegations when he gave evidence.

The matter will continue on March 9.
