Man of Tomorrow leak suggests Brainiac has Lex Luthor in his sights, not Superman

Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and David Corenswet as Superman.

A new leak has spilled out from the set of Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow – and it spells trouble for Lex Luthor and the citizens of Metropolis.

As reported by ComicBook.com, a video from the outskirts of the set in Georgia appears to show Brainiac's demands to the good people of the iconic DC city.

"Attention, citizens of Metropolis: I am your overlord. If you do not hand over Lex Luthor, I will blow up the city," a stand-in for what is surely Lars Eidinger's Brainiac announces during one terse moment.

While the context of the scene – and its placement in Man of Tomorrow is unclear – it paints a picture of the extraterrestrial DC supervillain having his sights firmly set on Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor rather than David Corenswet's Superman.

Thankfully for Lex, he has an ace up his sleeve in the shape of his warsuit, which was paraded on social media by director James Gunn and is completely practical.

That's not to say Superman and Brainiac won't cross paths. Far from it. After all, the pair have a storied, momentous history dating back to Brainiac's DC Comics debut in 1958's Action Comics #242.

James Gunn has even pointed out why the pair are, philosophically at least, diametric opposites from each other.

"Brainiac is what happens when intelligence loses ALL connection to humanity. And Superman is as human as anyone, so… I get why they have beef," Gunn wrote on Twitter in a post celebrating the anniversary of Brainiac's debut.

Man of Tomorrow, which is currently filming, opens in cinemas on July 9, 2027.
