Police have charged a man after a police officer was assaulted at the weekend.
Stephen Spencer, of Simonswood Lane in Kirkby, has been charged with s18 grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating of an emergency worker. The 44-year-old was arrested after police were called to reports of a domestic-related incident at a property on Greenbank Drive in Fazakerley around 7.40am on Sunday, April 10.
An attending police officer was assaulted by a man outside the property, leaving them with facial injuries and a fractured hand. A spokesperson for the force has since confirmed the officer is at home being supported by Merseyside Police and the Police Federation.

Stephen Spencer has been remanded in custody to appear at Wirral adult remand court today, on Monday, April 11. Speaking after the incident, Chief Inspector Col Rooney said: "Merseyside Police will not tolerate violence against officers and staff who are responding to incidents and calls for assistance from members of the community.
"Our officers put their own lives and personal safety on the line every day in order to keep us all safe and they should never have to accept such physical violence that was reported today when carrying out their duties."
