A man has been arrested after admitting to killing his girlfriend and storing her chopped-up body in the fridge.
Aftab Ameen Poonawalla, from Mehrauli, south Delhi, India, allegedly strangled his beau Shraddha Walkar to death after she asked him to marry her.
Poonawalla – who had previously received training as a chef – is believed to have used a meat knife to cut the victim's body into 35 pieces before buying a fridge to store her remains.
He spent the next 18 days disposing of her body parts at several locations around Delhi in the middle of the night.
Recent footage shows killer Poonawalla walking out of the police station with cloth wrapped around his face in a desperate bid to avoid being photographed.
According to local reports, the pair had met after working together in a call centre in Mumbai. But after Shraddha's family disapproved of the relationship, the couple allegedly eloped to Delhi.
During the fatal night, the couple were arguing about marriage, it has been reported.
Sources further said Mr Poonawalla used to sleep every day in the same room where he had chopped the body after killing her. He used to see the face after keeping it in the fridge.
After months of no contact and noticing her social media was inactive, Shraddha's father drove to see his daughter but when he arrived at the apartment he noticed the flat was locked.
The frantic dad reported an alleged kidnapping to police, sparking a hunt for Poonawalla.
Police arrested him on Saturday where he admitted to killing and disposing of a body.
Speaking to India Today, Laxman Nadar, Walkar's friend, said: "Once she contacted me on WhatsApp and asked to rescue her from her residence. She said that if she stayed with him (Aaftab) that night, he would kill her."
He continued: "She did not respond to any of my texts. Finally, it became a point of concern for me. I started asking common friends and others about Shraddha. After not being able to locate her whereabouts, I finally informed her brother that she had gone incommunicado for over a couple of months and said we should seek help from the police."
Delhi Police may write to the Bumble dating app to get details of the murderer's profile to find details of women who visited him in his house when the body was still in the refrigerator.
An investigation has been launched to find Shraddha's body.
