A man who threatened to stab someone while he ranted during a late night ruckus in Kinross has received a fine and been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Ryan Warden was heard to utter the chilling threat as he was challenging residents of Dalwhamie Street to a stand up fight on April 30, 2020.
Perth Sheriff Court was told police attended what was termed as an “ongoing disturbance” in the street at around 10pm that day and observed Warden shouting, swearing and challenging residents to a scrap.
Fiscal depute Sarah Wilkinson told the court he was then heard to shout: “Come to my door and I’ll stick a knife through your throat.”
She said the constables tried to calm him down but he kept shouting and swearing so they had to take hold of him and put him inside the back of their van.
Ms Wilkinson said as Warden was being put inside the van he claimed his comments had been “misconstrued”.
The court also heard eight months later Warden was then spotted by police driving a car through Perth despite being disqualified.
Ms Wilkinson said it was around 3.10pm when officers recognised Warden behind the wheel of a vehicle heading towards them on West Bridge Street on January 31 last year.
Warden, who formerly lived in Kinross, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm by acting in an aggressive manner, repeatedly shouting and swearing and uttering a threat of violence.
The 31-year-old, who court papers said now resides at an address in Angus Road, Scone, also admitted driving while disqualified and with no insurance.
The court heard in mitigation that Warden had since started a new relationship that seemed to be having a “stabilising influence” on his behaviour and that he was now making “significant” earnings through new found work.
His solicitor added at the time of his offending he had been dealing with personal issues such as stress and post traumatic stress disorder.
Sheriff Francis Gill told Warden: “There is no excuse for your behaviour. You should also know driving while disqualified is a very serious offence.”
He fined Warden £540 and ordered him to complete 150 hours of unpaid work within 12 month for causing the disturbance in Kinross and disqualified him from driving for a further 30 months for driving through Perth with no licence.
