Mr Patil’s BMW car suffered a late-night tyre puncture on the highway. Due to the late hour, he and his driver locked and safely parked the car on the roadside and returned to Solapur in another vehicle. When he returned to the spot the next morning, Mr Patil found his car completely burnt. As the car was insured, he was hopeful of receiving claim money from the insurer.
However, little did he anticipate this would turn into a long legal battle. The motor insurance company rejected his claim for IDV payment, citing the issue of the vehicle being left unattended. He then approached the Consumer Commission to get his claim money.
