- Food Process Engineering Limited has been fined £50,000, along with a £3,750 victim surcharge, after pleading guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act following the death of an employee.
- Steven Tervit, 32, died after falling four metres from a scissor lift while dismantling a cleanroom at the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland warehouse in Renfrew on 9 November 2022.
- Mr Tervit sustained severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, after wall panels he was removing collapsed and struck his lift, leading to his death the following day.
- A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found the company failed to adequately assess and manage the risks associated with dismantling a structure it had not originally installed.
- HSE highlighted that the company's risk assessment did not address the potential for unplanned collapse due to structural instability, and crucial 'A-frame' props specified in their method statement were not present on site.
