‘Man, it gives me chills’ – Powless fifth in remarkable Tour of Flanders debut

Neilson Powless Tour of Flanders Flanders Tadej Pogačar Van Aert van der Poel
OUDENAARDE BELGIUM APRIL 02 Neilson Powless of The United States and Team EF EducationEasypost competes passing through a Paterberg cobblestones sector during the 107th Ronde van Vlaanderen Tour des Flandres 2023 Mens Elite a 2734km one day race from Brugge to Oudenaarde UCIWT on April 02 2023 in Brugge Belgium Photo by Tim de WaeleGetty Images

A hundred yards or so past the finish line, Neilson Powless stood in the middle of the road, shaking his head in disbelief and smiling at the same time. A Tour of Flanders debut can have that effect, especially when you spend almost 100km off the front and reach Oudenaarde in fifth place.

The Ronde is an intoxicating kind of madness.
