Man injured in 'serious' Belconnen stabbing

Police units are actively looking for a man accused of stabbing someone on Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to a residence on Ranken Loop in Belconnen following reports of an alleged altercation between two men about 1pm.

Police said one of the men was stabbed during the "serious" incident while the other ran away from the location.

"[The alleged attacker] was last seen in the Belconnen area," an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

The victim was given first aid before ACT Ambulance Service paramedics arrived. The man was taken to the emergency department on Friday. As of Saturday morning, police say the man is in serious but stable condition.

Due to the nature of his injuries, the victim was not able to provide police with a description of the alleged attacker.

The police spokeswoman said the attacker was not known to the victim but believed the incident was "not random".

"A police operation to locate the offender is underway," she said. "We are looking for him."
