A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash which closed a busy Penarth road for several hours on New Year's Day. Emergency services were called following a collision on the A4055 between Penarth Road and the Merrie Harrier pub at around 7pm on January 1.
Police said the collision involved a male pedestrian and a Lexus car and that the pedestrian, aged 46, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, with injuries described as life-threatening. He remains in hospital.
The road remained closed for several hours after the incident and live traffic websites Inrix and the AA showed heavy congestion in the area on Sunday night. A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "At around 7pm on New Year’s Day emergency services were called following a road traffic collision which involved a male pedestrian and a Lexus car. The 46-year-old pedestrian was taken to the University Hospital of Wales with injuries described as life threatening. He remains in hospital.
"The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. The A4055 between Penarth Road and the Merrie Harrier public house was closed for several hours. Motorists and the public are thanked for their patience during this time."
Police were at the scene of another crash in Cardiff earlier on Monday. South Wales Police said a two-vehicle collision happened on the A48 near Ely Bridge. The area of road was closed for a period but the force said no injuries were sustained in the incident, which you can read more about here.
