Police have locked down a Kilmarnock estate following the attempted murder of a man last night.

Cops swooped on MacPhail Drive in the New Farm area of the town just after 8pm.

A 39-year-old man was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

The extent of the injuries sustained by the man or his current condition has not been disclosed.

Officers confirmed this morning that they're treating the incident as attempted murder and that enquiries are ongoing.

We reported last night that cops had set up several police cordons at various points on MacPhail Drive.

Drivers were not allowed through access on MacPhail Drive at all. McNaughton Drive and MacLean Drive also had no access to MacPhail Drive.

Police also appeared to be standing guard at the entrance to Kilmarnock Cemetery.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said : “Officers attended at MacPhail Drive in Kilmarnock at around 8.10pm on Sunday, September 18, following the attempted murder of a 39-year-old man.

"The man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment and enquiries are ongoing.”
