A man has been hospitalised after being found with 'significant' injuries in the early hours of this morning (January 28). Greater Manchester Police were called by North West Ambulance Service around 12.30am to a concern for welfare of a man found in Heywood town centre.
The man in his 40s was being treated in Dawson Street and was found to have significant injuries. He was taken to hospital where he remains for observations.
A cordon was put in place while police carried out investigations. A section of Dawson Street was closed to traffic with the cordon in place outside The Dressers Arms, which remained open.

Forensic officers were present at the scene as police sought to 'establish the circumstances' of the incident. No arrests have been made.
Residents in the area told the Manchester Evening News their upset at the police scene being in place.
One man said: “I live in Heywood and it’s upsetting to see things like this happen. I don’t know exactly what happened but people are getting very worried”
Greater Manchester Police have just sent this statement: "At around 12:30am on Saturday 28 January, Greater Manchester Police were called by colleagues at NWAS to a report of concern for the welfare of a man at Dawson Street, Heywood.
"The man – in his 40’s – has suffered significant injuries and remains in hospital under observation. A scene is in place to establish the circumstances. No arrests have been made at this time.
