Man in court after robbing Poundland store armed with axe before crashing car in nearby street

A man has appeared in court charged with multiple offences following the robbery of a shop in south Bristol last week.

Daniel O’Driscoll, of Four Acres, Bishopsworth, admitted several offences at a hearing at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Monday, April 11. He pleaded guilty to: two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker, possess an offensive weapon in a public place (an axe), threaten a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place (a knife), aggravated vehicle taking (initial taker) and dangerous driving.

He also pleaded guilty to obstruct/resist a constable in execution of duty, use a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance, drive whilst disqualified and robbery. The 32-year-old will be sentenced on May 9 at Bristol Crown Court for these offences.

O'Driscoll will be entering a plea at Crown Court on May 9 for three counts of attempted burglary of a dwelling with intent to steal, burglary dwelling and theft (no violence).

Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement earlier this week that the robbery happened at a shop in south Bristol shortly before midday on Friday (April 8). The force said the emergency worker assault charges and the driving offences relate to incidents which happened shortly after the robbery.

The force said the burglary charges relate to incidents in the Bedminster Down area of the city during the early hours of Friday. It said: "If you have information about these incidents but have not yet spoken with officers please call 101 and give the reference 5222083184."

At the time, shopkeepers described the moment a man carrying a knife and an axe robbed a Poundland shop in South Bristol.
