At roughly 5.30pm on October 1, two men, both aged in their 20s, were walking along High Road, Chadwell Heath.
They were then approached by a group of six men who verbally abused them. One of the group then struck one of the victims on the head with a plank of wood.
The victim suffered cuts and bruises and was taken to hospital but was discharged shortly after. The second man was not injured but both were left distressed.
Following an investigation, police are treating the incident as a hate crime and have released the images of men they wish to speak to.
