Man headbutted ex-girlfriend in the street when she refused to take him back

A Bolton man headbutted his ex-girlfriend in the street after she refused to get back with him. When Lee Jackson was eventually taken back by his victim just months later, he put his hands around her throat during an argument.

Jackson and the woman initially got into a relationship in July 2020, Bolton Crown Court was told. In January 2022, after splitting up, Jackson saw the woman near his home.

He approached her and asked if they could reconcile but she refused. Jackson, 52, then headbutted her in the nose, causing it to bleed, before running away. Two months later, she got back with Jackson after breaking up with a new partner.

At the start of April, problems arose again and Jackson started to prevent her from leaving the house. On April 7, they were both home when the woman received a text from Jackson's friend, which seemingly upset him.

Jackson pulled her phone charger out of the wall, before putting both of his hands around her throat. The woman later told police that she was unable to breathe and could feel Jackson's nails digging into her neck. She also said that he made threats and did not let her leave.

Jackson, of Kingthorpe Gardens, Great Lever, denied the incidents during a police interview but eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating. Defence barrister Colin Buckle told the court that Jackson spent five months on remand and has also been subject to an electronically monitored curfew.

The Honorary Recorder of Bolton Judge Martin Walsh slammed Jackson's "appalling" criminal record, as he jailed him for 26 weeks. Due to the time already served on remand and on electronic tag, he walked free from court.
