Merseyside police have now released CCTV of a man who they believe may have information to help their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: "This was a nasty attack that left the victim in need of hospital treatment. To carry out such a vicious assault is appalling and we are determined to find the person responsible.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we hope that the CCTV images can assist our investigation. We believe the man pictured could have information. If you recognise him, please get in touch.

"Similarly, if you saw the incident on Sunday evening, please contact police as soon as possible. Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC on Twitter, call 101, quoting reference 23000533867. You can also pass information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
