A 53-year-old woman has been charged with murder and breaching a family violence order after the discovery of a man's body in a central Hobart apartment.
Police were called to Walford Terraces in Harrington Street at 10:20pm last night and found a 51-year-old man's body in one of the apartments.
Detective Inspector Michael Smith said the man had suffered an apparent knife wound.
"Unfortunately despite the best efforts, and quite sustained efforts of Tas Ambulance, he was unable to be revived," Inspector Smith said.
A woman, 53, and a man, 41, were taken into custody a short time after police arrived.
The man was later released but Inspector Smith said the three people were known to each other.
He described the three as having a "close friendship", and said the woman had previously had a relationship with the 51-year-old man.
He said the 51-year-old lived alone.
In a statement on Thursday afternoon, police said they had charged the woman with murder "in relation to the Harrington St suspicious death overnight".
"She has been charged with one count of murder and one count of breaching a police family violence order and is expected to appear in court in Hobart later today.
"The 41-year-old man has been released without charge."
