A man was found dead on a stairwell in unexplained circumstances in Co Cork.
Officers confirmed the grim discovery in Mallow and said emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 7pm on Thursday.
It is understood that the body of the man in his 50s was found at the foot of a stairwell in an apartment in Mallow.

Gardai confirmed that he was pronounced dead at the scene and has since been removed to Cork University Hospital.
Last night, the scene was preserved for examination and a post-mortem is due to be carried out by Dr. Bolster, Office of the State Pathologist, this morning.
A garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí have commenced an investigation following the discovery of a body of a man in unexplained circumstances in Mallow, County Cork on Thursday, 5th January 2023.
“Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly after 7pm, after the body of a man in his 50s was found at the foot of a stairwell in an apartment in Mallow.
“He was pronounced dead at the scene and has since been removed to Cork University Hospital.
“The scene is currently preserved and a post-mortem examination will be carried out by Dr Bolster, Office of the State Pathologist, tomorrow morning.
“Results of the post-mortem will assist Gardaí in determining the course of their investigations.”
