Man fatally shot in the face after trying to stab security guard with syringe

A man has been shot dead after trying to stab a security guard with a syringe.

The suspected shoplifter, who has not yet been identified, was shot in the face at a Baltimore pharmacy on Friday morning.

Southeast District patrol officers confirmed the incident happened in the 600 block of Exeter Street in the neighbourhood of Harbour East.

Officers were called to the scene at 9am after reports of a shooting in the area but when cops arrived a man was found with a gunshot wound to his face.

The unidentified man was found by cops in a "critical condition".

Police have revealed the man was caught stealing items from the store and was trying to leave the shop with the items.

As he attempted to leave he was confronted by a security guard who tried to stop him.

The suspect then pulled out a syringe from his clothing and tried to stab the security guard, who quickly got out his firearm and shot the suspect in the face, police confirmed.

The shop said no customers or staff were injured in the incident as police investigate.

Whilst the investigation remains ongoing the pharmacy will remain shut, a spokesperson said.

They shop admitted: "The security officer involved in this incident is not employed by or for our store.

"Our understanding is that the officer is with a guard service for the community and neighbourhood."

The shooting comes just days after Baltimore police revealed they are still searching for a man accused of fatally shooting a bus driver on October 18.

Elaine Jackson, 40, was shot and killed as investigators believe Leon Douglas Hill was responsible for her death.

Baltimore police have not said whether the pair know each other but believe the shooting was domestic-related.

Neighbour Lyssa Person was shocked to heart Mr Hill is wanted in connection to the shooting.

She admitted: "I was surprised. I was shocked."

Other neighbours said the man was always a respectful person who said hello.

Deitrick Marion, who lives not far from the suspect, said: "We'd always see each other 'hey man how are you doing?' He'd ride by and blow the horn. I'd blow the horn. 'Hey how you doing man He was always a good respectful man."

However, since he's now a wanted man Ms Marion is now worried to be in her neighbourhood.

She added: "I haven't heard anything on the news if he's been caught or his whereabouts anything like that and it's frightening."
