Man faces court charged with murdering Morwell woman in 2019

A 51-year-old man has faced court today charged with the murder of a woman in eastern Victoria in 2019.

Scott Kennedy faced the Melbourne Magistrates' Court via video link after being arrested at a property in Oakleigh this morning.

He sat with his head in his arms for much of the short filing hearing.

Police allege Mr Kennedy fatally assaulted a 44-year-old woman in her Morwell home on Sydney Street sometime before noon on October 18, 2019.

She was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died from her injuries three weeks later.

The court heard Mr Kennedy has three psychological conditions, including PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD as well as severe back pain.

He receives methadone treatment four times a day and his lawyer requested additional medical care while in custody.

Mr Kennedy did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear via video link at Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court on December 16.
