Man downs 3.3lbs of steak in five minutes to be crowned champion

A charity worker was left dripping in 'blood' after demolishing a kilo and a half of rump steak in five minutes to win an eating competition - the equivalent of 12 quarter pounder burgers. Max Stanford, aka Max vs Food, picked the 50oz medium-rare slab of meat up with his bare hands and voraciously chomped his way to victory in just four minutes and 50 seconds.

The 35-year-old tackled the meaty feat on February 4, easily out-scoffing other competitors with Tunny vs Food completing it in 10 minutes - more than double Max's time. While joint third place went to Kyle V Food and Food and the Beast who were unable to finish it, managing approximately 30oz each.

Max polished off the 2,485-calorie monster morsel, containing just shy of the recommended daily calorie intake of 2,500 calories for men, at The George Pub & Grill in Stockton-on-Tees.

Not only did he win bragging rights, but he was also awarded a 'meat-eating world champion' belt.

The 'steaks' were high for Max as this came hot on the heels of two previous wins.

The day before he demolished 102 Jaffa Cakes in three minutes and a week earlier he gobbled down 1kg of Frosties in just six minutes.

Max said: "Looking back at the video I looked a bit crazy and primitive, I just went into beast mode and tried to eat as much as I could.

"At the start I had a knife and fork in my hand but then I just intuitively picked it up with my hands and started eating.

"I wasn't thinking about it too much, I was just thinking of attacking it.

"I was pretty worried ahead of it, especially as it was my first steak challenge and I didn't know how to handle it.

"I normally have better manners when I'm having my dinner at home."

Founder of British Eating League Craig Harker said that Max set a new UK and European record as there isn't already an established 50oz one in the UK.
