Man dies in workplace accident after his truck rolls backwards at Gepps Cross factory

A man has died after becoming trapped between his truck and another vehicle at a factory in Adelaide's northern suburbs this morning.

Emergency services were called to a business on White Road at Gepps Cross just before 6:30am after reports a man was wedged between a truck and a trailer.

SA Police said the 52-year-old Craigmore man died at the scene.

SafeWork SA executive director Martyn Campbell said his thoughts were with the man's family, friends and workmates.

"This tragic event is a timely reminder for businesses and workers to remain vigilant to all workplace risks and ensure workplace risks are identified, eliminated, or controlled to a reasonably practicable level," he said.

SafeWork SA is investigating, and police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Andrea Madeley, whose son died in an industrial accident nearly two decades ago, said Wednesday's incident was "heartbreaking".

"There's a new family out there today that are going to be traversing an awful, awful process and a long process, a really drawn-out process," she said.

Ms Madeley said workplace safety should be every company's "highest priority".

"Because I understand the impact of when it all goes horribly wrong, and how long-lasting it is," she said.

"I'm 18 years down the track here and I still find myself in the mornings crying when I think about what's happened."

Ms Madeley said better prevention was needed to avoid future incidents.

"Humans are not perfect, we make mistakes. All of us do," she said.

"So we have to factor that into the processes, which is why these rules are so important."
