Man dies in Glasgow hospital three days after being hit by car in Shawlands

A man has died in hospital after being hit by a car in Glasgow's south side.

The 59-year-old pedestrian was struck by a Ford Fiesta on Kilmarnock Road in Shawlands on Friday night (March 4).

Police and emergency services were alerted to the scene, near the junction with Holmbank Avenue, at around 11.30pm.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in a critical condition.

Tragically, he died this morning (March 7) as a result of his injuries, the Daily Record reports.

The 30-year-old driver of the Ford Fiesta was uninjured.

The road was also closed for several hours following the incident while enquiries were undertaken.

Police have issued an appeal for information as part of their investigations the circumstances behind the crash, and have asked any motorists with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Inspector Andrew Thomson, from the Greater Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the man's family at this sad time.

"We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and would ask anyone who has not yet come forward with information to get in touch with police.

"We're also keen to hear from motorists with dash-cam footage from the area to come forward.

"If you believe you can assist our enquiries, please call 101, quoting incident 4320 of 4 March."
