Tributes have been paid to a man who drowned while rescuing his dog at the weekend.
Cathal Mulvaney (44) died following a tragic accident at Lough Ramor in Virginia, Co Cavan. It is believed Mr Mulvaney got into difficulty at the popular lake when he was out walking with his dog around 10am on Sunday morning.
It's understood he went into the water after his dog in a bid to save him. It's been reported the dog also died in the tragic incident.

Locals in the area are said to be in complete shock at the incident and all music in the local Lakeside Hotel in Virgina town was called off on Sunday night as a gesture of respect to Mr Mulvaney.
Paying tribute local GAA club CLG Cuchulainn said: “Deepest condolences to the Mulvaney family after the tragic passing of Cathal. Cathal played for Cuchulainns for many years and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.”
Local undertaker in Mullagh and Cavan Independent Councillor Shane P O’Reilly extended his “sincere sympathy to the family”.
Gardaí say they along with other emergency services received reports of an unresponsive man who had been taken from the water at the Virginia lake.
The man was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Gardaí say a post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date.
Mr Mulvaney had been living in the Rathardrum area of Virginia but was originally from Main St in Mullagh. Gardai said the Cavan man’s death is being treated as a tragic accident. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.
