Man dies after plunging from height in Edinburgh as Health and Safety Executive informed

A man has died after plunging from a height in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were scrambled to the George IV Bridge in the city centre and Cowgate at around 10am on Thursday March 17.

It came after a man fell from a height onto the Cowgate area in the capital.

Police have now confirmed the 48-year-old tragically was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been made aware of his death.

A probe has been launched into the incident with the Health and Safety Executive also informed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of a 48-year-old man having fallen from height onto Cowgate in Edinburgh around 10am on Thursday, 17 March, 2022.

“Emergency services attended, however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is aware. “Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”
