A man has died after a lorry crashed through a barrier on the M74 in Lanarkshire this morning.
The 32-year-old driver was travelling northbound on the busy motorway when he smashed onto the other side of the carriageway.
He then collided with a southbound car and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by Police Scotland this morning.
The overturned lorry shut off the area as mercy crews raced to the 'serious accident'.
Officers from Police swarmed the scene at around 7.50am after reports of the two-vehicle road crash near junction 10 and 11.
The male driver of the other vehicle, a black Land Rover Discovery, was uninjured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances of the collision.
"The road remains closed to allow crash scene investigators to examine the scene and conduct enquiries.
"Officers are appealing to any motorists who were on the M74 with any dash cam devices to check their footage.
"It's possible it may have captured images which could assist officers in their enquiries."
