ROADS have reopened after a horror collision between a truck and car at Cliftleigh, which killed a 31-year-old man on Monday afternoon.

Police said on Tuesday morning no charges had been laid over the fatal crash on Cessnock Road - the second in just two days - but that inquiries were ongoing.

Monday's smash came after a 44-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash about 7.30pm on Friday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the truck and car accident at Cessnock Road on Monday about 3.50pm.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the driver of the car, a 31-year-old man, however he died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a man believed to be aged in his 40s, has been taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Port Stephens-Hunter Police District officers have established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Several traffic diversions were in place while emergency crews attended the scene, but Cessnock Road had re-opened to traffic on Tuesday morning.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage has been urged to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
