A man has died after a fire ripped through a flat in east London early on Monday.
Fire crews were scrambled to the blaze in Newport Avenue, Plaistow, at 5.15am.
The fire destroyed a ground floor room in a flat, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Firefighters spent about an hour and 20 minutes tackling the blaze, which was under control by around 6.40am.
The Met Police and London Fire Brigade are now investigating the cause of the fire.
