A man has tragically died after being hit by a car while walking on the M8.
Police were called to the motorway in the early hours of the morning after a pedestrian was struck by a car travelling on the westbound carriageway at Chapelhall. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers are currently working to identify the man in order to inform his family and next of kin.
Police confirmed an investigation into the collision is ongoing as they appeal for information including dashcam footage.
The driver of the Seat Leon car was thankfully uninjured but left very upset by the incident.
A Police Scotland appeal issued this afternoon advised: "Officers are appealing for information following a fatal road crash on the M8 on Sunday, 30 January 2022.
"Around 1.50am, emergency services were alerted to an incident where a pedestrian, walking on the M8 carriageway, was struck by a blue Seat Leon car driving westbound on the motorway.
"The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are under way to identify him in order to notify their next of kin and family of the circumstances.
"The driver of the Seat Leon was uninjured but was very upset following the incident.
"An investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances of the incident and the M8 was closed to allow crash scene investigators to conduct their enquiries."
Sergeant John Tait said: “We are aware there were other vehicles, in particular a HGV lorry, travelling on the carriageway around the time of the incident and I am asking the lorry driver and other motorists to contact us.
"They may not even be aware that an incident occurred but we would ask them to get in touch with us.
"In particular, I would ask anyone with dash cam devices to check their footage as it could hold images which could prove to be significant in our enquiries."
