LUCKNOW: Hours after body of a missing 22-year-old man was fished out of Gomti river in Lucknow and his identity was ascertained as Saurabh Kumar, police claimed it to be a case of suicide. His father, Dinesh Kumar, however, lodged an FIR against Saurabh’s cousin accusing abetment to suicide.
The FIR alleged that Saurabh’s cousin was in a relationship with him and mounting pressure on him for marriage. The police lodged the FIR after the kin put the body on the road outside Gomtinagar police station, till senior police officials pacified them and assured action.
Additional DCP, East Zone, Syed Ali Abbas said an FIR was registered and a probe was being conducted into the allegations. According to the police, Saurabh Kumar (22), resident of Vivek Khand, Gomtinagar, used to work in a dental clinic in Chinhat.
Dinesh told police that for the last two days his son seemed depressed and was not going to work. “On Friday, after I persuaded him, he left for work. Around 4 pm, my sister Beena Raj informed me that Saurabh had left a message on the family WhatsApp group, appealing to take care of his family and cousin. The family panicked and started to search for him,” said Dinesh in the FIR.
Hours later, Dinesh’s niece Monica informed them that she had spotted Saurabh’s scooter, his helmet, phone, and wallet, Dinesh told police. The family informed the police following which divers were pressed into service and after three hours Saurabh’s body was fished out and sent for post mortem. ADCP Abbas said the call detail records of Saurabh and the accused cousin who works in the 1090 women power line are being checked.
