Man City Women player ratings as Ellie Roebuck sent off in fiery Manchester derby

Manchester City's hopes of Champions League next season have all but vanished after falling to defeat in a fiery Manchester derby at United's fortress Leigh Sports Village in front of a record crowd.

City went behind after just two minutes through United's Hayley Ladd, and it went from bad to worse just before half time when Ellie Roebuck was sent off for an unnecessary and heavy-footed tackle on Nikita Parris.

Despite being ripped apart by United in the first ten minutes, City grew into the game from the 20th minute putting pressure back on Marc Skinner's side who had been dominating the first 45.

City came back into the game in the second half but the pressure was too much and United wanted the win too much to keep their title hopes alive - but destroying Man City's hopes of Champions League football.

Here are said ratings as they fell to defeat United at Leigh Sports Village...

Ellie Roebuck

Saw a lot of early action, has no chance of saving Hayley Ladd's goal in the second minute, and great reactions to save Nikita Parris' shot on third minute. However it all went so wrong just before half time after taking out Nikita Parris outside of her penalty box and was sent off. Silly from Roebuck and the sending-off brought her score right down. 5

Esme Morgan

Didn't seem to cope well with the pressure of United - much like most of the City squad - but several mistakes from Morgan found her losing her players giving them more freedom than they already needed. Almost gave away a goal after losing Leah Galton in the 60th minute and not being able to keep up to chase her down. 6

Steph Houghton (C)

Gave away the ball to give United the chance to come forward again on 35th minute along with Alex Greenwood but thankfully the attack arrived into the safe hands of Ellie Roebuck. The experienced captain played a vital part in the second half stopping the United attack - and Sarina Wiegman could be bearing her in mind with all of her injury woes ahead of the World Cup. 7

Alex Greenwood

Classic Alex Greenwood defending. Can anticipate what's coming to be able to defend on that City backline, but did make a mistake giving the ball away following Houghton's giveaway in the 35th minute. Other than that, she was as we expect Greenwood to be - organised on the back four and disciplined. 8

Leila Ouahabi

Made her presence known down the flank but didn't really do much with that on impact and felt more and more absent from the game as the first half went on. Was substituted in the 43rd minute to bring on 18-year-old Khiara Keating in goal after Roebuck's sending off. 6

Yui Hasegawa

Lost possession a number of times in the first half when under pressure, didn't seem to cope well in a deep United midfield. 6

Filippa Angeldahl

Lost the ball early on to give United the advantage to score that early goal within the first two minutes, and then fired over the rebound of Chloe Kelly's woodwork shot in the first five minutes of the second half. Her efforts were finally rewarded after a cross tipped over the top of Mary Earps to get in the back of the net on the far post. 7

Laura Coombs

Struggled to stay with a very powerful and dominating Nikita Parris, and as hard as she tried, she just couldn't match the power of United's players today. A good effort but just really couldn't make the impact she needed to try and break down her opponents. 6

Chloe Kelly

Didn't have much chance to do magic Chloe Kelly things, but glimpses of her usual clever footwork to try and battle through United's midfield but was closed down before she got her run. Managed to get herself more into the game in the second half and get some space early in the second 45 but hit the woodwork - wasn't close enough to level. Forced Earps into more action after another cross almost floating into the net via the back post. 7

Lauren Hemp

Tried to get those crosses into the box for Shaw, but wasn't given the room by United's defending back line. Still never gave up though and what Taylor - and Sarina Wiegman, who was watching on today - will love about Hemp; she always gives a solid effort. 7

Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw

Wasn't given too many chances on goal - especially in the first half - and even floated into midfield to adapt to United's formation. As a key part of City's forward press, Shaw needed to get on that front foot rather than back up midfield. Forced a save from Mary Earps in the 66th minute - but that was the biggest chance City's leading goalscorer had all game. 7

Subs:

Khiara Keating

The teenager was brought on in the 43rd minute after Ellie Roebuck's sending-off. Made a comfortable save in the second half and had some massively strong goalkeeping moments - very quickly becoming a great second keeper behind Roebuck. 8

Hayley Raso

Brought on in place of Lauren Hemp in the 75th minute. Has a great chance to put City 2-1 up in the 80th minute from a Chloe Kelly cross but it reached her too quickly and she wasn't able to react quickly to control the ball to get that goal. 7

Deyna Castellanos

No real impact on the game, but wasn't really allowed the room as United dominated the last ten minutes of normal time as she entered the field. 7
