Man City vs Newcastle United team news: Trippier and Wilson on the bench, Saint-Maximin starts

Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson had to settle for bench roles at the Etihad Stadium as Eddie Howe had a close to full strength squad to choose from against the champions.

The Magpies also left Fabian Schar on the bench after the Swiss star had suffered a knock last weekend. Howe was also unable to name Jonjo Shelvey in his starting line-up with Sean Longstaff getting his chance.

United started with Martin Dubravka in goal with Emil Krafth and Matt Targett full-backs while Lascelles and Dan Burn were in the heart of defence. Joelinton, Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes patrolled the midfield.

Howe did not punish Allan Saint-Maximin by axing him at City despite a social media backlash over an interview with a French magazine. Saint-Maximin, Chris Wood and Miguel Almiron were in the frontline for the Magpies. Howe also named Paul Dummett on the bench.
