Jurgen Klopp protests fall on deaf ears as kick-off changed for Liverpool’s Man City trip

Liverpool have been scheduled to play away from home in the Saturday lunchtime slot immediately after an international break once again - this time against Manchester City.

The Premier League have announced the TV fixtures for the weekend of November 25 and Sky Sports will air the title clash, which now kicks off at 12.30pm BST.

It marks the final round of the calendar year to take place after an international break, with the Euro 2024 qualification group stage culminating just four days earlier.

Already this season, Liverpool have travelled to Wolves for a Saturday lunchtime kick-off after September’s internationals and they host Everton in the same slot after the current break.

Jurgen Klopp has regularly voiced his displeasure at being the first club to play after internationals, particularly given a number of his star players are South American.

The likes of Darwin Nunez and Alisson Becker will not return to Merseyside until shortly before the title race clash at the Etihad Stadium, with Brazil facing Argentina in the early hours of November 22 being a long flight back from Rio de Janeiro.

Liverpool, of course, will not be the only club affected by this with Ederson and Julian Alvarez just two of City’s contingent facing having to rush back for the game.

But Klopp has spoken out before about being feeling hard done by with these TV rearrangements.

He said last month: “It’s not a problem if you have a normal week, I always said that. It’s easy to adapt.

“The only problem is the lack of recovery time. We have four international breaks until March. [After] two of them we already have a 12:30 kick-off. If I say a word about it, the whole world goes ‘he starts moaning again’.

“This is a joke. We have players [who were] in South America. I didn’t see them yet and we have 24 hours before we play, but it’s like it is. We cannot change that and we’ll never change that.

“The TV channel has a different name but that doesn’t change anything at all. They just don’t give a... about that.”

Elsewhere that weekend, Arsenal travel to Brentford for the 5.30pm kick-off on TNT Sports. Sky will show Tottenham vs Aston Villa at 2pm on Sunday before Everton vs Manchester United, with Fulham vs Wolves on Monday Night Football.
