Man City transfer gossip: Julian Alvarez's next move already offered as defender snubs move

Manchester City are set to wrap up the signing of Argentinian forward Julian Alvarez this week – but his next move could already be in the works.

The striker is expected to stay at River Plate until the summer before coming over to England, but Premier League side Wolves have also tried to take him on loan, according to reports.

It comes as reported defensive target Theo Hernandez is set to snub a move to the Etihad to stay at AC Milan.

The Frenchman was reportedly one of Pep Guardiola's top targets to fill the left-back position in his squad but he may now sign a new contract in Italy instead.

And a City youngster who has been compared to David Silva has been linked to a Premier League rival.

Here are all the latest Man City transfer rumours.

Have Your Say! Who do you want Man City to sign in January? Let us know in the comments here.

Leicester 'keen' on contract rebel

Leicester City are reportedly "keen" to sign Manchester City youngster James McAtee.

LeicestershireLive reports that McAtee has 18 months left on his contract and is attracting attention from the likes of Aston Villa and Brighton as well as Brendan Rodgers' side.

But with the 19-year-old "stalling over a new contract", according to the report, Leicester could make a swoop for the young forward.

Hernandez snub

AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez is set to snub reported interest from Manchester City and sign a new deal to stay in Italy.

Calciomercato.com reports that an agreement has been reached for the renewal of the Frenchman's contract until 2026.

It is claimed the player has "never really taken into consideration offers from abroad, especially from Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain".

The report claims Milan icon Paolo Maldini, the club's legendary left-back who is now working as the club's technical director, played a key role in persuading Hernandez to stay.

Alvarez's next move already 'offered'

Manchester City's Premier League rivals Wolves offered to take Julian Alvarez on a year-and-a-half loan deal, it has been claimed.

Alvarez is expected to sign for Pep Guardiola's side this week but will reportedly stay on loan at River Plate until the summer.

But Wolves apparently wanted the young Argentine forward to sign on loan with them following his move, according Argentine newspaper Olé [via Sport Witness ] - despite it not really fitting into their business strategy.

But it is reported that City have turned down the offer from Wolves so that the player can stay in his native country slightly longer.

He could then be loaned out in the summer, or remain in Argentina for another season, with the report saying City's plan is to "only have him ready to help them in the summer of 2023".
