Man City told why they have huge advantage over Liverpool FC in Jude Bellingham chase

Legendary Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes that Jude Bellingham could reject Liverpool in favour of a move to Manchester City, should he decide to leave Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham is likely to be the most sought-after player in world football next summer, such has been his remarkable rise at the German club over the past couple of years. At 19 the midfielder has already worn the captain's armband on a number of occasions for his club and looks set to be a key member of Gareth Southgate's England team at the upcoming World Cup.

Over the past few seasons City have witnessed Bellingham's immense quality first-hand in the Champions League. The youngster scored a brilliant goal against the Blues in the quarter-final second leg in April 2021, and he repeated the trick during City's recent defeat of BVB at the Etihad Stadium.

City and Liverpool are just two of the sides linked with Bellingham. Some reports have claimed that Erling Haaland is doing his best to persuade his former teammate to join him in Manchester, and Wright believes it would be very hard for Liverpool to convince Bellingham to pick red over sky blue.

"The problem is that Bellingham has the pick of the greatest at the moment," Wright said on the Kelly and Wright Show. "How do you sell Liverpool to him?

"You’re going to need other players alongside him so you can say 'we’re going to get back to this'. How are you going to be able to entice him against City who can say 'look who we have got' and Real Madrid who can say 'look who we have got'?

"Liverpool are now in a very precarious position, which is why I want Liverpool to just focus on getting the top four."

Jurgen Klopp's side suffered yet another setback on Sunday when they lost 3-2 to Arsenal in a thrilling match at the Emirates Stadium. The defeat means that Liverpool are now 13 points behind City and 14 behind table-toppers Arsenal, albeit with a game in hand.

It's clear that Liverpool need a squad refresh but, as Wright pointed out, that could make their pitch to Bellingham all the more difficult and hand the advantage to City.
