Man City tipped to rival Newcastle United for James Maddison transfer

Newcastle United failed in two summer approaches for James Maddison and the Magpies could now face competition for the Leicester City star. Manchester City and a number of 'Premier League rivals' are all interested in a summer move for the one-cap England international who will be entering the final year of his contract with the Foxes.

That is according to the MailOnline, who claim Pep Guardiola has identified the attacking midfielder as part of a squad overhaul to add 'more goals' from those supporting Erling Haaland. Maddison has netted seven Premier League goals so far this season, and earned a surprise call-up to the World Cup squad although he did not feature in the Three Lions run to the quarter-final stage.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly faced questions on Maddison's future in recent months, with reports suggesting the former Norwich City star has no intention of extending his deal at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes were said to have valued the 26-year-old in the region of £60 million, a fee Newcastle were not prepared to pay in the last window.

Recent moves for Gordon and Sven Botman suggest Newcastle will rekindle their Maddison interest in the summer, but they could now face strong competition for his signature.
