Man City's open-top bus parade delayed with fans forced to wait to see Treble winners

Manchester City have been forced to delay their open-top bus parade due to poor weather.

City completed an historic Treble by beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final in Istanbul on Saturday night. They have spent the hours since celebrating, with a private jet whisking them to Ibiza and back.

The parade was due to start around 6.30pm in Deansgate, Manchester. But thunder storms in the local area have prompted the club to push back the start time.

"Due to reports of adverse weather conditions and localised lightning storms, which are expected to reach Manchester city centre shortly, the start of the trophy parade will be delayed until 19:00 (UK)," the club said in a stament.

"This decision has been taken in the interests of safety by Manchester City Council in conjunction with the Club and other local stakeholders, who have consulted with meteorologists and the Met Office.

"Gates for the stage show on Oxford Street will now open at 18:30."

City have become the first side since Manchester United in 1999 to win the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup in the same season. After enjoying the victory inside the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul with their supporters on Saturday, many of the squad jetted off to Ibiza to continue the partying.

They returned on a private jet on Monday afternoon, in time to parade around Manchester. Thousands are expected around the route from Deansgate to Portland Street, with live music from bands and DJs to provide a party atmosphere, if the weather allows.

The route goes from St Mary's Gate via Cross Street and King Street before finishing on the corner of Princess Street and Portland Street.

The poor weather after the weekend's heatwave may prevent City from matching the kind of numbers rivals United pulled in for their parade in 1999. Greater Manchester Police estimated that at least 500,000 saw United ’s open-top bus parade.

There was no rivalry on Saturday, with Guardiola revealing that he'd received a message from former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

"I was so happy to get a message from Sir Alex Ferguson on my phone this morning," he said. "It touched me. I am so happy to be sat alongside Sir Alex. Winning the Treble is so difficult, but it was written in the stars that we would win this season.

"This trophy is so difficult to win. This competition is a (toss of a) coin. But now it belongs to us. We knew it would be hard and we were anxious in the first half. It was a question of being patient - and we also had to be lucky with Ederson at the end."
