Stefan Ortega
Good save in the early stages to keep Manchester City level vs Club America, and showed decent distribution, too, with one pinpoint pass to halfway that Ederson would be proud of. A solid debut. 6
Kyle Walker
Effectively a third centre-back when City have possession. Calm and composed for the most part, and a good first run-out for the season. 6
Nathan Ake
Looked solid and was helping Luke Mbete along, but culpable for the goal that took a simple ball over the top to catch him out. Replaced at half time. 5

Luke Mbete
Targeted early on, but recovered to hold his own until the Club America goal, where he was equally at fault as Ake. Did well in the second half, though, alongside Phillips. 6
Joao Cancelo
The new number seven playing in the inverted full-back role he has perfected for the last 18 months. With no senior left-backs in the squad, he didn't even play there, sometimes operating as the furthest man forward. Good in possession. 6
Rodri
Picking up where he left off last season, quietly effective and dictating play. Some lovely quick feet to keep or win back possession and sent a message to Phillips of the level needed to play in the holding role. 6
Kevin De Bruyne
Led the charge from the start, driving through the middle. His first goal was a fine finish after scrapping to win the ball twice, and the second a lovely run and shot under the goalkeeper. At his best when pushing through the middle. 8
Bernardo Silva
Sloppy in possession at times, giving the ball away in dangerous areas, but some useful positional work and signs that the form will return with fitness. Did well to cover at left-back when Cancelo roamed forward. 6
Riyad Mahrez
A little isolated out wide, but some clever touches. Then his assist for De Bruyne on the stroke of half time was sublime. Replaced at the break. 7
Jack Grealish
Beating the defence with ease every time, and reacted well to the persistent rough treatment. Set up the goal and wanted three penalties that were all denied. He did well to keep his head when Club America decided to target him physically and ultimately let the football do the talking. 7
Julian Alvarez
Very lively, and showed his fitness after playing since Fenruary. He kept the defence occupied with some useful runs to draw the centre-backs apart and free space for De Bruyne. May have had a debut goal but for a little more composure, but an encouraging first run-out. 7
Kalvin Phillips (on 45)
Dropped in at centre-back, Phillips looked calm in possession, although had to be told where to be at times, which is to be expected as he has only had a fortnight training under Guardiola and has been playing in the wrong position. Moved into midfield for the final 15 minutes. 6
Josh Wilson-Esbrand (on 45)
Looked good on the left, especially when bombing forward. May get more opportunities due to the lack of options in the position now. 6
Cole Palmer (on 45)
Always trying to beat his man, with mixed results. More impressive was the clear tactical notes he's taken on board to keep shape and keep possession when necessary. 6
Liam Delap (on 70)
Using his physicality well, showing how City might line up with a taller, stronger striker than Alvarez. 6
James McAtee (on 70)
Some nice touches in attacking midfield. 6
Kayky (on 76)
Silky feet and an eye for a pass. Worth seeing more of him. 6
Rico Lewis (on 76)
His first senior run-out, and looked solid enough at right-back. 6
