Man City player ratings vs Chelsea as Stefan Ortega and Jack Grealish excellent

Stefan Ortega

Possibly the best No. 2 goalkeeper in the Premier League now. Positionally brilliant off his line and made some excellent saves. Deserves to play more often, but how? 8

Rico Lewis

Was given a tough time by fellow teenager Lewis Hall at times, especially for one chance that Hall should have scored, but he was a threat on the overlap. 6

Ruben Dias

Took over the captaincy when Gundogan went off and had a pretty comfortable night. Never troubled by the dangerous Armando Broja. 7

Aymeric Laporte

Made one excellent last-ditch tackle in the first half, having looked to be struggling earlier in the game. Little to worry him. 7

Sergio Gomez

Provided the width down the left and did link up well with Grealish, but could have done more with his final ball. 6

Rodri

Chelsea looked a threat on the counter at times in the first half but City generally had control of the midfield. A solid rather than spectacular outing. 6

Ilkay Gundogan

Similar to Rodri and not quite at his sharpest with some of his passing in the first half, with Chelsea hard to break down. 6

Riyad Mahrez

Very quiet in the first half but came to life after the break. Won the free-kick from which he scored and then was involved in the second goal as well. 7

Cole Palmer

Very bright in the early stages, showing excellent close control and finding space smartly. A little quieter in the second half but an encouraging night. 7

Jack Grealish

Somehow he didn't score despite what seemed like a personal battle with Mendy. Outstanding all night though, shades of the old Grealish with his dribbling and ability to glide past players. 8

Julian Alvarez

Maybe a little too deep in the first half but linked play well and still had chances. Much better after the break. Brilliant crossfield pass in the build-up to his goal. 8

Substitutes

Kalvin Phillips

Badly needed this run-out, to prove his fitness for England and try and get up to speed with City. Rusty but the minutes mattered most. 6

Bernardo Silva

Bright in midfield and showed some neat footwork at times. Came on just as City turned the screw. 7

Nathan Ake

Only given 10 minutes. 6
