Man City owner Sheikh Mansour reveals details of planning meeting with Pep Guardiola

Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour has shared images of himself meeting manager Pep Guardiola following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.

Guardiola guided City to another Premier League title this season — their sixth since Mansour's takeover in 2008 — and the club are pushing closer to Champions League success. Already this summer, they have signed Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez to bolster their squad for next season.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in his annual interview last week that City intend to add more players to their squad for their title defence, while he indicated that the club will sit down with Guardiola when the time was right to discuss a new contract.

Now, Guardiola has been pictured meeting his owner, along with Khaldoon, with planning for next season among the topics discussed.

Sharing images of the owner, manager and chairman in discussions, Sheikh Mansour's Twitter account posted: "Yesterday [Saturday], His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.

"The meeting was attended by Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Club's Board of Directors. The meeting came in the wake of the club's recent victory in the English Premier League, and to discuss plans for the next season 2022/2023."

Guardiola has insisted he is happy at City, and even suggested he would stay for another 10 years earlier this season. However, he has also reiterated that he will not rush into a new contract, and any extension must be right for the club as well as himself.

Last week, Khaldoon said: "Pep has never stayed as long as he's stayed (here) with any club, be it Barcelona or Bayern Munich. So, the question is perfectly valid. It is perfectly valid last year and was three years ago. And of course this year.

"It is a partnership that has done wonders in years. It is approaching its seventh year and next year is going to be an exciting chapter of his partnership and we're enjoying every moment of it. We're achieving great things together and this conversation will be had at the right time, at the right pace, and with the pace, time and framework that works for Pep."

After City's title win, Mansour posted a message of congratulations, saying: "We congratulate the Manchester City team for winning the English Premier League title. We congratulate all the team in charge, players and fans in Britain and around the world. A well-deserved crown for a distinguished team."
