Man City 'monitoring' Arsenal star as Pep Guardiola targets transfer revenge amid Zinchenko deal

Arsenal star Kieran Tierney is being monitored by Manchester City as Pep Guardiola looks to sign a replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Mikel Arteta enjoyed a successful time as a coach with City and has since poached both Gabriel Jesus and Zinchenko from his former club this summer. The Gunners have spent over £100million in the transfer window so far and more deals are expected to be completed before the deadline at the end of the month.

Zinchenko started the season at left-back as Tierney recovered from an injury sustained at the back end of last season, with the Scottish defender featuring in first team training ahead of the clash against Leicester. City backed out of a deal for new Chelsea signing Marc Cucurella and are pursuing a deal for former Arsenal transfer target Sergio Gomez, whilst monitoring Tierney's situation at the Emirates Stadium.

After the Gunners secured deals for two City stars this summer, Guardiola could look to take revenge in the transfer market by pursuing a deal for Tierney, as per The Telegraph. Zinchenko's strong start to life in north London under Arteta could leave the Scotland international falling down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

The Premier League champions could look to make a move for Tierney with the 25-year-old having more English top-flight experience than their other targets. The Scottish defender has struggled with injuries since arriving from Celtic back in 2019, missing a total of 48 games for the Gunners in just three years.

A consistent, solid defence has proved to be key to challenging for the title in past seasons with both City and Liverpool having settled back lines that see them now clear of their Premier League rivals. Arteta could look to follow in their footsteps and stick with a defence of Zinchenko, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba and Ben White for as long as possible as the Gunners look to continue their fine form from pre-season into the opening month of the Premier League.

Zinchenko had an instant impact after registering an assist in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, with the Ukraine international set to continue at left-back for the clash against Leicester this weekend. Tierney may not settle to be Zinchenko's back-up this season, and City could take advantage of his situation and get transfer revenge on Arteta's side.
