Here are your Manchester City evening headlines for Friday, June 16.
City submit retained list
City have submitted their retained list to the Premier League following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season. The list names the players that the club has released, including captain Ilkay Gundogan.
However, despite the list, at first glance, suggesting that the German has exited the Etihad Stadium once and for all, City do remain in talks with him over a new contract. His current deal is up at the end of this month, meaning he has to appear on the released list even if he could end up putting pen to paper on a new deal in due course.
Though the situation with Gundogan, who scored 11 goals this term, is far from finalised, City have named three other players on their released list, including Benjamin Mendy. He has been joined in leaving the club by youngsters Rowan McDonald and Terell Agyemang.
City make Palmer decision
City have no plans to offload academy graduate Cole Palmer on a permanent basis this summer - but are ready to send him out on loan. The 21-year-old, who has been on the club's books since 2010, will be on the hunt for regular first-team football next season after struggling for frequent opportunities during the 2022/23 campaign.
Though he racked up 25 appearances in all competitions for City, featuring in each of the three competitions that they won, he will be determined to store more minutes under his belt next term and become a regular starter elsewhere. He underwhelmed for much of the campaign and did not start to perform until the latter stages of the season.
Palmer, who has scored four goals in 38 senior appearances for City, would benefit from a loan spell elsewhere, either here in England or in Europe. However, the Blues have made it crystal clear that they have no plans to sell him at this juncture.
