Man City injury update as key player ruled out of Arsenal Premier League title showdown

It's the game everyone in the football world is talking about. Champions Manchester City versus challengers Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

Arsenal have the edge in the Premier League title race, leading Pep Guardiola's side by five points. But that lead was larger just a few weeks ago, with a Gunners wobble, in which they've drawn each of their last three matches, handing City the initiative.

The Citizens have two games in hand, meaning they go top of the table by a point if they win them, and whoever wins tonight's massive clash will have a huge advantage going into the final month of the campaign.

Neither manager has declared it a title decider - why would they with at least five games for each side still to play after this one - but both know how crucial three points would be in Manchester.

Both teams know that the title race is in their own hands. Both can win all their games and win the title. That will not be the case after tonight's clash.

Each manager has injury concerns heading into the match-up, with William Slaiba ruled out for Arsenal and question marks over Granit Xhaka too.

On the flip side, Guardiola will be without one of his most trusted defenders this season for the big game. Nathan Ake limped off against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final second leg with a hamstring injury and he is not ready to return, having sat out the FA Cup semi-final with Sheffield United.

Guardiola delivered the update during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, saying: "He's not ready for tomorrow but I don't know how the damage is. They made the final tests this morning to know exactly how he is. Nathan Ake won’t be available vs Arsenal. Hopefully he can come back soon."
